The challenge for this veneer chair was to design a one-piece chair mold with a supportive curvilinear shape. It includes armrests and a 3-dimensionally curved seat. We used an upper and lower mold with accentuated elements for the arms and legs. The chairs were made by using 13 layers of identically cut veneer. They were first steam bent, then laminated together in the molds.
Versions of this veneer chair
The earliest version of the chair features a holly veneer face. The second and third versions were painted with lacuer and automotive finishes. In one version, the alternating layers of mahogany and maple veneers are visible.
